Postdoctoral Fellows at Positive Outcomes 2011-2012

   Nick Costakis received his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Child Development and Family Studies from Purdue University. His Doctorate in Clinical Psychology was obtained at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Nick has previous experience administering psychological evaluations at a psychiatric hospital, private medical group, community mental health center, as well as with returning veterans from the Illinois National Guard. Additional experience includes providing therapeutic and crisis intervention services to children and adolescents on an inpatient psychiatric unit, running groups and providing individual therapy to students at a therapeutic day school, providing individual therapy to children and adolescents at a community mental health center, as well as working with children from recently returning veterans. His dissertation focused on a systemic approach to combating bullying at a therapeutic day school environment. Nick also enjoys providing recreational services to children and adolescents with physical disabilities.


   Dr. Sarah Murray received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Marquette University, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology, in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Murray completed an APA-accredited internship at the Allendale Association, a not-for-profit organization located north of Chicago, Illinois. This training program included residential treatment of youth with severe emotional and behavioral disorders, treatment of youth within an intensive day-treatment/alternative education program, and individual, family, group, and play therapy services on an outpatient basis. Dr. Murray has previous experience administering psychological evaluations at a private practice setting as well as community mental health centers. She also has experience administering psychological evaluations to youth who were incarcerated or who were placed in residential treatment. Additional experience includes providing therapeutic and group services to children, adolescents, and their families at a children’s hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
   Dr. Murray has also provided individual and couples therapy to university students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has experience leading parent-training groups for parents of children with disruptive behavior disorders, social skills groups for children and adolescents, and groups for children with anxiety-based disorders.

   Dr. Melissa M. Gonzalez received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Psychology from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. She earned her Master of Arts and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Gonzalez completed an APA-accredited internship at the Allendale Association, a not-for-profit organization located north of Chicago, Illinois. This training program included residential treatment of youth with severe emotional and behavioral disorders including work with their families; treatment of youth within an intensive day-treatment/alternative education program; and provision of outpatient individual, family, group, and play therapy services.

   Dr. Gonzalez has experience administering psychological evaluations in a private practice setting including children, adolescents, and adults ages 10 months to 89 years old. She has worked in cooperation with the Department of Family and Children’s Services, the Department of Juvenile Justice, the Department of Labor Vocational Rehabilitation Services, the Department of Labor Disability Adjudication Services, and local law enforcement agencies for the purposes of personnel screenings. Furthermore, Dr. Gonzalez also has experience with forensic evaluations such as custody evaluations, competency evaluations, and other court-ordered evaluations. Dr. Gonzalez has also completed evaluations of youth who were incarcerated or who were placed in residential treatment.

   Additional therapeutic experience has included work in an intensive day-treatment program for adolescents and young women with eating disorders and short-term therapy with students at the University of Georgia’s Counseling and Psychiatric Services. Areas of specialty include trauma, disordered eating, relational problems, and women’s issues.
